The Seed is the Word of God

Connecting our Christian lives to a seed, a plant, a vine and a branch bearing fruit has always been revealed through the lens of God’s word. David initiated the first revelation saying, blessed is the man that trust in the Lord, he is like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season and the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. Isaiah also continued saying, we are trees of righteousness and the planting of the Lord that he might be glorified. Jeremiah finally crowns it in the old testament saying as believers we are like a tree planted by the waters and shall not cease from yielding fruit.

One faithful evening as I was studying the subject of a seed, the Spirit of God said something profound to me. He said “God has given us everything in life as a seed.” It was then, I began to see all of that through scriptures, precept upon precept and line upon line. All we heard and learnt from people in the old testament were shadows and metaphorical teachings. Truth only came to us by Jesus Christ. He is the central piece, in whom all revelations and prophecies both present and future rests on. He went through great lengths to teach on the principle of the seed, the tree or the vine and its branch bearing fruit knowing that He himself was the seed of Abraham and the true vine. Our Father being the farmer.

Without controversy, He unequivocally said, the seed is the Word of God and our heart is the ground. Pictorially, as faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, so is the seed of God’s word being sown in our hearts as we hear to apprehend or comprehend. This is what gets me so excited, whenever you and I are hearing the word of God through a preacher or studying the word of God through meditation, we have to recognize that, the seed of God’s word is being sown in our hearts.the-seed-of-gods-word

The most fundamental of all life principles is knowing that the word of God gave birth to our natural course and sequence of life. I have always wondered, what is the spiritual world and the natural world? What is the connection between these two worlds? I found the answer, Words are the bridges or connecting dots, that connect the spiritual world to the natural world and vice versa. Jesus said, the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life. It’s fair to conclude that words are spiritual. This is such a profound revelation that will set us on course to taste and see the goodness of God in the land of the living.

Let’s ask ourselves, what seeds have we been planting in our hearts? Whose words have we been sowing in our heart? Are they seeds or words of fear, death, powerlessness, discouragements, disappointments, poverty? This is what has crippled a lot of Christians from doing exploits and experiencing the Life of God to the full. Jesus said, be careful what you hear and how you hear. Remember for God has not given us the word (spirit) of fear but of love, power and a sound mind.

The radio/tv news we hear, the songs we listen to, the books we read, the movies and the conversations we have are designed consciously or unconsciously to program our thoughts and hearts either for good success or failure. This is why we need to take heed what we hear and how we hear. The book of proverb says guard your heart with all attentiveness, because that will determine how good the sequence of your life will be. A good man out of the good treasures of his heart brings out good things and an evil man out of the evil treasures of his heart brings our evil things.

God gave his word (wisdom, knowledge and understanding) as a seed to Adam and Eve to fellowship with hence they brought out everything good. Afterwards Adam and Eve were spiritually attacked, when the devil also came with his word (wisdom, knowledge and understanding) as a seed to commune with them, thereafter they brought out only evil things. The only means through which they were attacked that led to the fall of man and the universe was through words. What is striking to me is, when God asked, Adam who told you, you are naked? Have you eaten of the fruit I asked you not to? This cannot be more different from us today. We have been attacked spiritually by words negative to the word of God but God is asking us the same question, asked Adam, who told you?

We are engaged in the spiritual battle of words everyday of our lives, at home, at work and in school. This battle of words comes to us every day especially in our thoughts. These negative words come to frighten us, discourage us from our walk of faith. They paint pictures of gloom and doom and loss of hopes and dreams. The only way to overcome these battles is doing exactly, what God did. God won back the fallen human race through the same principle of a seed. He spoke words to Adam and Eve, to the patriarchs and continued to speak words to the kings, priests and prophets. This became the foundation, from which the seed of Abraham, Jesus (the Word) became flesh and lived among us. This is how Hebrews 4:12-13 beautifully frames it “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”

If God was able to restore and recreate again through the word of God, so can we. As we fellowship and engage God through His primary word, thus meditation, prayer and worship, the seed of divine health, wealth and prosperity are sown in our hearts. The seed of God’s love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance are deposited in our hearts and eventually they become the very fruit we bear in our daily lives. Jeremiah said, thy words were found, I did eat them; and your words become the joy and the rejoicing of mine heart. David said, the word of God is medicine to all his flesh. God also told Joshua, the word of God will make him prosper and he will have good success. The word of the Lord came to Abraham saying, I am you shield and your exceedingly great reward. Mary also said, let it be unto me according to your word.

We can recover, restore and recreate anything missing in our lives simply by discovering what the word of God has to say concerning the specific issue. I strongly recommend, that we re-program ourselves with the word of God as our surest way of living the life of God to the fullest. The enemy has designed the systems of the world through words to oppose the word of God in our lives, we have to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly in all wisdom and teaching and admonishing.

Finally, brothers and sisters, by discovering the word of God, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Let us cloth ourselves with the good news of the word rather than the bad news of the world, as we combat against the wiles, trickery and lies of the devil. Using the shield of faith and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. The first Adam lost the battle, by not putting on the whole armor of God. The second and last Adam (Jesus Christ) won the combat, saying man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the month of the father.

  1. I think this word, is really insightful. Bringing to mind the power and importance of our words, those we hear from others and most importantly what God has said about us and to us. I like thepart where God asked, “who told you?”If you are thinking or experiencing something contrary to His word, who told you?
God bless you, Chris, for this message.
