The Fatherhood of God

The Fatherhood of God
The Fatherhood of God
I pray, our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, fully grasp and participate in this knowledge of the fatherhood of God. For many years, sadly I was like the Pharisees and the Sadducees, zealously trying hard to conceptualize every topic and message in the Word of God, until I encountered the ever Living Word. We all need to realize, the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is more than, a topic or a subject to be discussed or shared. It’s a fellowship with real LIFE, which is worth LIVING. John couldn’t have said it, any better than “What we have seen and heard, we are telling you, so that you too may realize and enjoy fellowship as partners and partakers with us. And this fellowship, that we have, which is a distinguished mark of Christians is with the FATHER and with His Son.” 1 John 1:3

Just to respectfully point out quickly, this is not a piece to prove or otherwise, the concept of trinity as many may want to assume. Prior to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, there were pockets and pieces of scriptures spread across the old testament dimly foreseeing the Fatherhood in the Godhead. Specifically, Moses, Isaiah, David and Jeremiah were cross-referencing each other on the said issue (Deut 32:6, Isa 63:16, Ps 27:10, Jer 3:19). But with all certainty, it was Jesus who had the audacity to crystalize God as His Father. The Fatherhood of God is one of the pivotal aspect of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. This insight into the Godhead was too good to be true in His days. In no missing words, firstly, Jesus called God his FATHER, showing us God is more than just God and creator of the universe. God was His Heavenly Father. Secondly, the Godhead was hatching an ultimate plan in fathering and parenting many more sons unto glory. This was a freshly baked and hot revelation, that none of the religious rulers ever saw eye to eye with or could comprehend. Jesus heralded, the dawning of a new relationship (family) in the Godhead.

The richness of this knowledge of God, as His Father in Heaven guided His relationship with the deepest fellowship that produced faith, hope and love everywhere He went. His approach towards God was very personal and was functioning at the very heartbeat (bosom) of His Father. He was not trying so hard to “mechanize” a relationship with God as the religious traditions of his days will have Him do. There was just a natural flow of LIFE, which He practically lived and revealed to us. This single piece of revelation we see here, influenced the manner in which He (Jesus) prayed ((our Father who at in Heaven) and viewed worship (the hour is coming where the true worshippers will worship “not God” but rather the Father, in spirit and in truth)), leading largely to the impacts and results in His life. Drawing from the following, the focal point in all our prayers and worship is our Father.

Beloved, this I say, is a big game changer because, Jesus said, “I do nothing except what I see my father does”. It’s worth repeating again and again because, prior to the revealing of Jesus as the messiah, no one was healing the sick, casting out devils, raising the dead, turning water into wine, multiplying food, preaching and teaching the love of God at the market square and on the street corners, sharing God’s love and forgiveness (not God’s judgement and wrath) at such a phenomenal rate, just to mention a few. He was displaying to humanity what was the Father’s response to fallen life situation (the decay in the world). He said “if you have seen me you have seen the Father”. This was the secret to living the LIFE of God to the max with tangible proofs, He was simply mirroring His Father. In as much as, the following are essentials to our personal walk with God, it wasn’t so much, about the amount of time He prayed or how erudite He was in cramming the scrolls (bible) in His time, neither was it His influence and power over people, as much as it was about acknowledging God as His Heavenly Father (His Life Source). He said “the works that I do, my Father that dwells in me, He performs the works and I only do what my Father does”.

There is no controversy, this knowledge of the FATHERHOOD of GOD has been transmitted successfully unto us, to practically live with, relationally and in fellowship, by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Brothers and sisters, this should transform our perspective and response with or to God. Undoubtedly, seeing God as our father washes away the stress, struggles and agonies (burdens) especially carried in and out of prayer (prayer henceforth should become our delightsome joy and peace.) We need to acknowledge that our Father is far more willing to freely answer even our deepest desires and imaginations than our ability to ask Him for anything. Beloved, I want to invite us, as believers to fully trust in our Heavenly Father’s unconditional love. It’s beautiful knowing that He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Can we, right now, right here, begin to believe our Father, to lavishly surprise us with His extravagant gifts (goodies) beyond our wildest imaginations and dreams, far more than we can ask or think? Can we stop the anxiety, the worrying, the murmuring and complaint and allow God to father us in every facet of our daily lives? God is yearning to father us all completely with His loving kindness. John said “what manner of love, has the Father bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God”.

Jesse Duplantis in ministering the word of God, told a story of himself and his granddaughter, in relating to this. He postures and poses the question, how come, we Christian’s have to ask, plead, literally beg, weep, cry, bombard the gates of Heaven, pull down strongholds, bind demons for our Heavenly Father to do ONE good thing for us? If he Jesse been a grandfather, goes all out to buy good gifts, for his granddaughter, who has not even requested or asked for anything, but because of his love for his granddaughter, he has decided to surprise her by lavishing good gifts on her, how much more our Heavenly Father. “If we been evil, know how to give our children good gifts, how much more shall your Father which is in Heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matt 7:11. It’s time to just trust our Father to be the Father, He is willing to be in our daily lives.

Our very reputable Greek scholars in the bible concordance, have told us, what the meaning of the word FATHER is (3962 patḗr – father; one who imparts life and is committed to it.) This is brilliant, because the very thought of the word, the fatherhood of God, should remind or resonate with us about the LIFE we have received from God, as our Father who imparts life. It’s no surprise now, why Jesus will say “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself” John 5:26. The progenitor or origin and source of LIFE.

You would have carefully noticed also that besides Jesus who always refers to God as His Father, when He was personally praying or teaching His disciples to pray, the living epistles written by the Apostles, did something remarkable with this revelation. All the epistles, took deliberate time to consciously introduce the fatherhood of God in their cutting edge opening statements of the gospel. If you haven’t noticed, kindly take time to study it for yourself. You will be amazed at the consciousness with which they (the Apostles) wrote and related with the Fatherhood of God.

My favorite of all these scriptures in the epistles is found in Eph 3:14-15, you will enjoy it too – For this cause, I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in Heaven and earth is NAMED. (Reading this scripture – Oh!!!! there is a shout of a king in my spirit)

Come with me as we carefully open and feast on Paul’s prayer right here.

It’s stimulating to realize that God is fathering a family in Heaven and on earth, of which you and I were very much born into when we were born again. What is particular about this family? This family tree is huge, fully packed and monstrous to say the least. Right at the top of this family tree is our own brother, Jesus, the first begotten of the Father (No wonder, Hebrews 2:11 says, both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters). Not to mention, the great Apostles in the book of Acts, along with our old testament believers and in our recent church history, the men and women of faith who walked this earth and wrought righteousness. Paul calls this, the whole family in Heaven and on earth. Yes, indeed it’s a rich family of God that you and I are part of in Heaven and on earth. I can understand, spiritually why and how Moses and Elisha could appear to Jesus at the mount of transfiguration while He was praying in Matthew 17. I doubt if that was the first time or the last time such a thing had happened. It’s clearer now, how Paul could be caught up into the third Heavens to participate in divine discourse. Henceforth, we too can have our own prayers of transfiguration, with Jesus and any of our family members present, as we deem fit, GLORY to GOD as we dine with our family members in divine spiritual fellowship (either in bible studies, prayer, worship or meditation). Beloved prayer is now a spiritual family gathering, where all the stewards of faith can be present, Hallelujah! You can invite anyone in the family as much as you can also be invited.

As a family in the Godhead, we all have the same access to our father in His name. In the old testament, a selected few had the monopoly through which you could gain access to God, but fasting forward into the new testament, because of the Fatherhood of God, we all as sons have direct access by one spirit unto the Father. Buddies and sweethearts, the monopoly people use to enjoy in the old testament in accessing God has been broken. For by Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father Eph 2:18.

Time will fail us in looking at all that the word of God teaches concerning our Father, except to say I trust, you will diligently do a personal studies, ponder and meditate on this revelation for a far richer experience with the Fatherhood of God.

Finally, in as much as our Father is more than willing to foster a flourishing relationship with each and every one of His sons, we all should take individual interest in receiving by faith to fellowship with the Fatherhood of God, to get to know Him for ourselves. It’s only in the Fatherhood of God, that we can understand and relate positively with the unconditional Love of the Father, His unending mercies, His willingness to provide for us far above our ability to ask.

Thank you.

  1. This is outstanding. In the end we realize that knowledge in God is not that which we have come to know but that which we participate in. If this is drummed home into our hearts then Christianity will be a matter of participation than in gearing and talking about. That’s what I always say about Grace. Grace is not a message we hear, it is a person we relate and grow with and in. When it happens that way several unnecessary questions being asked will disappear. Cos God does not come to just answer all our questions, He actually questions our questions. Bless you bro. This is a great revelation!

  2. Great post Minister Chris…

I love the story of Jesse. The way most Christians view God is the direct opposite of who He truly is. I’m glad to call Him Father in every essence!

  8. Being a progeny of Christ is not just to transform us from darkness unto the marvelous light of his Father but also through adoption impute the genes of His Father in us, that we may not feel attached to the Family head but know we are of His genes.

Religion which project God as god only permeate our minds with the rigid rule you need to follow or you fall out in life but Christ free flow life only tell us, what my Father gave me that I have in turn given to you is to make you live and express the image and actions of God with ease.

Bless you Christ. For releasing my mind from conceptualizing my relationship with God to upholding the living expression who God has made me in love.

  9. What joy to know that as much as God was a Father to Christ, He is a Father to us also. It my prayer that this relationship consciously and unconsciously becomes a part of our personal day to day walk.

  10. After reading this, I have personally deduced that even the Office of the Prophets in these times, have been reduced to ‘equality’ amongst the fellowship of the family of our Father to a large extent in that we and as a matter of fact, each and every family member of our Kingdom has equal and full(100%) access to our father including the occupants of the 5 fold ministries.
The family members of God our father now in these times have got direct access to him as the Prophets and Apostles amongst others also do.
Ah ah ah ah… Osofo Chris ‘Mawu na yra wo sia’
    Thank u.
